Embark on an unforgettable international experience by traveling to Madrid, Spain and/or Rome, Italy, where you can earn up to five accounting core and business elective credits taught by Auburn School of Accountancy faculty. These iconic European capitals offer vibrant cultures, world-class cuisine, and endless entertainment—all while helping you progress toward your degree.
Program Highlights:
- Spend up to five weeks abroad during the first half of the summer, taking two courses and participating in enriching cultural and educational activities. Past programs have included guided tours of the Colosseum, Vatican and Sistine Chapel, as well as Spanish cooking classes and networking with international business professionals.
- Enjoy ample free time to explore the sights and sounds of Rome and Madrid and the surrounding areas.
- Take part in a special field trip to Florence, where you'll delve into the history of accounting in one of the world’s most influential financial centers.
- During the second half of the summer, opt to complete additional courses online, giving you the flexibility to continue traveling or return home while staying on track academically.
This immersive experience will not only help you fulfill degree requirements—it will also set you apart from your peers, enhance your resume, and open doors to future professional opportunities.
2026 Program Structure:
- Rome Only (May 13 - May 29): BUSI 3250 is required and the only class offered
- Madrid Only (June 6 - June 19): ACCT 5620 is required and the only class offered
- Rome and Madrid (May 13 - June 19): BUSI 3250 & ACCT 5620 are both required and taken
This program is designed specifically for accounting majors. Accounting minors and other business majors are considered if sufficient space is available.

- ACCT 5520 – Accounting Analytics (Prereq: ACCT 5110, CTCT 3250)
- ACCT 5700 – Advanced Business Law (Prereq: ACCT 2700)

Passports, etc.:
You must have a valid passport by February 28, 2026, good for at least one year after you return to the U.S. at the end of the study abroad program (June 19, 2027). Therefore, to meet this deadline, if you need a new passport, you should apply no later than December 15, 2025.
Living Arrangements:
You and your roommate(s) will stay in a 3-star or higher hotel or apartment with basic amenities and easy access to bus and/or metro lines. Two meals per week and Internet access are included in the program fees. You are "on your own" for other meals, and there will be plenty of grocery store and restaurant options. Specific housing details will be provided before departure from the U.S.
